Is Colombia a Good Choice for Medical Tourism?
So you think planning to undergo plastic surgery in Colombia is a good choice to save money? The truth is medical tourism is all about affordable plastic surgery and a country under the health tourism campaign is considered to have world class medical care but with very affordable plastic surgery cost. Plastic surgery in Colombia offers several good reasons why the country made it to the top medical destination ranks. It provides cut down plastic surgery cost, it operates with many experienced doctors and surgeons with a lot of satisfied patients and of course, the quality of medical facilities are top notch. Yes, Colombia is a great choice for medical travel.
If you want to see the difference in terms of plastic surgery cost with the actual numbers here’s a quick comparison. In the United States, the cost of breast augmentation runs from $4,000 to $8,000 depending on the surgeon experience and the wait list the surgeon have from patients. Facelift can go from $6,000 to $8,000, the very in demand liposuction starts from $3,500. Nose job or Rhinoplasty can vary from $4,000 to $5,000 and yes every procedure can cost higher than this. Above all, these number doesn’t include other fees that are also very critical for the surgery itself like anesthesiologist fee, the implants fee (in the case of breast implants) and the medical facility fee. If you add them all up, plastic surgery cost in the United states is indeed very expensive.
Now let’s take a look at the prices offered by plastic surgery in Colombia. The normal cost of breast augmentation in Colombia is around $2,500 depending in the exchange rate, and usually that includes the anesthesiologist fee, the implants and the medical facility fee. Just by looking at the inclusive fees, you can start imagining the savings you will get. Here’s the list of common affordable plastic surgery procedures that have high hits from u.S.and European patients.
Breast Augmentation $2,500
Liposuction $3,000
Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) $4,500
Rhinoplasty $2,200
Breast Reduction $3,500
Eyelid surgery $1,900
Waiting times, health insurance and high plastic surgery cost are three things that made American patients decide to opt for plastic surgery in Colombia as well as to other countries like Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina and India. Now you may think that the cost of medical procedure may seem to be too cheap and patients will likely be skeptical on what kind of healthcare these countries provide. The thing is, it is not that its cheaper somewhere else, your country is just way overpriced. The cost of living in Colombia is always relatively cheap, with the current exchange rate you will surely save more if you decide to fly to Colombia.
To guide patients coming from Europe or United States, health tourism agencies welcomes patients to their offiice to know more about medical tourism and its benefits. These agencies serve as the middleman on connecting patients and surgeons from the country they wish to go for medical care. Also, I advise patients to get proper orientation from their personal doctor and trusted physicians to know the risks and rewards of medical tourism.

Nice to see that there are other good, reputable organizations out there. Medical tourism requires responsible parties representing the best interests of the patients. This is what will bring lasting success in this industry. Best of luck to all.

You should go to Costa Rica. There are great doctors in there, specially in the private area, is not very expensive and the quality is really good. In the mean time in the country, take a tour and some packages for a dream vacation.

Not only is the medicine in the United States ridicously expensive but its inhumane. I would prefer flying to Colombia a million times than staying in the US for ANY procedure, the doctors charge ridicously. ONE NIGHT and no doctors saw my dad cost$26,000. What is this??? In colombia my dad went and it cost at most $30.00. The service is top notch in Colombia and unlike in the US the doctors are warm and friendly!!!

Medical tourism is the future and I’m glad that people have options. But it is important to do research before you decide to travel to another country.
